Digital Metaverse Platform in European Union
Recently, Metaverse has been getting more and more talk on various platforms. In simple terms, the metaverse is a virtual space that utilizes virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies that allow everyone to gather and interact.
This conversation is getting livelier after boss Mark Zuckerberg changed the name of Facebook to Meta and cost 10 billion US dollars for the metaverse. Because of this, more and more people are starting new ventures in this digital space. Recently, Saudi Arabia even introduced the black stone in the metaverse under the "Virtual Black Stone Initiative" project.
So, how do you join the metaverse?
Metaverse Platform
Refers to Fortune, there are several platforms that provide this service, such as Sandbox, Mirandus, and Decentraland. The last name is the most popular for users in the world and will be an example in this tutorial.
To get the full experience, a laptop alone may not be enough. That's why Facebook's metaverse vision includes users with Oculus VR headsets or augmented reality glasses.
After logging in to Decentraland, you have two choices, namely to play as a guest (free) or paid (using crypto). The difference is, playing for free will get a more limited experience.
Creating Avatars
The first thing to do before stepping into the metaverse is to create an avatar. The panel is full of options to customize hair color, eyes, clothes, and even other accessories.
Start exploring the Metaverse
After some time to choose a suitable outfit, you will be taken to the Genesis Plaza, the starting point in Decentraland. In that place, many other avatars will appear around you. When an avatar approaches, you may hear a user's voice. You can walk to the location that has been determined by the map. There are many places available in Decentraland. These places have previously been created by other users, including the game.
When will The Metaverse Realized?
To realize the metaverse world is certainly not practical and easy. According to Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg, it took 10 to 15 years to build. Of course, this requires inter-company collaboration. However, so far the metaverse experiment has been carried out by Facebook for work and communication purposes. One of them is the existence of a VR-based office space called Horizon Workrooms.
This virtual-based office space provides a virtual meeting room that can be used as a means of face-to-face online. The application is operated via the OCulus Quest 2 VR headset made by Facebook. How it works, participants who are in a virtual meeting room will be illustrated with 3D avatars.
Users are also possible to make video calls which will later appear on the virtual presentation screen. Horizon Workrooms are also equipped with whiteboards that can be used to write meeting materials by relying on the controller from the Oculus Quest 2. Besides Facebook, the electronics giant Samsung has also created a virtual store called the Samsung 837X.
To be able to visit Samsung's virtual store on the 837X the user must login on the Decentraland website. The Samsung 837X virtual store actually has a physical store located at 837 Washington Street 837, Meatpacking District, New York, United States.
Apart from these two companies, there are several other companies that are also interested in experimenting with the metaverse. Some of them are like Epic Games, a company that develops the battle royale game, Fortnite. Even in recent times, Fortnite has held a virtual concert by cooperating with several top musicians such as Marshmello, J Balvin, Travis Scott, and Ariana Grande.
Reporting from the BBC, graphics processing chip (GPU) manufacturer Nvidia is reportedly building "Omniverse", a real time 3D platform and virtual world simulation. Even in December last year, Saudi Arabia presented the Black Stone, a black stone located southeast of Kabar to the world of the metaverse. This has led to debates among Muslims on social media whether the Hajj can be performed virtually.
However, according to the explanation of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) itself, it is explained that circling the Kaaba in the metaverse is not legal because it does not fulfill a physical presence. Even so, this can be used as an introduction to the location for preparation for the implementation of the hajj in order to have complete and adequate knowledge before carrying out the pilgrimage.
Facebook Seeks 10,000 Experts to Develop Digital Metaverse Platform in European Union
Facebook plans to recruit 10,000 job candidates to be placed in the European Union over the next five years in an effort to build a digital world known as the Metaverse. The company focuses its recruitment efforts in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands and Ireland.
Europe is very important to Facebook
From thousands of employees in the European Union to the millions of businesses that use our apps and tools every day, Europe is as big a part of FB's success as Facebook is in corporate success in Europe and the wider economy according to Facebook's Head of Global Affairs Nick Clegg and Vice President of Center Products, Javier Olivan.
The Metaverse is an online world where people can play games, work, and communicate in virtual environments, often using VR headsets. Not only Facebook is planning to develop a digital meeting in this 3-dimensional (3D) form. A number of other companies including Microsoft, Roblox, and Epic Games are investing heavily in their own versions of the Metaverse.
As we embarked on our journey to bring Metaverse to life, the need for highly specialized engineers was one of Facebook's most pressing priorities. Facebook looks forward to working with governments across the EU to find the right people and the right markets to advance this, as part of its upcoming recruitment efforts across the region.
The discourse of looking for 10,000 workers is a form of diversion of the issues currently experienced by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The company was the subject of a series of investigative reports by the Wall Street Journal that uncovered the company's internal research into the negative impact of its Instagram app on teens and the exclusion of high-profile individuals from its rule.
Earlier this month, Frances Haugen, a whistleblower who leaked internal documents, testified at a US congressional hearing. Haugen accused the company's leadership of placing astronomical profits above people. But Mark dismissed the accusations. Haugen and another Facebook reporter, Sophie Zhang, will both testify before the British Parliament this month. EU lawmakers have also asked Haugen to appear at the parliamentary session in November.
Metaverse Development in Asia Pacific Meanwhile in Asia Pacific itself, the development of Metaverse will be predicted to be a big opportunity. The development of this metaverse takes quite a long time and is carried out in stages. To make it happen, the government in many countries will collaborate with software company WIR Group. Reporting from the media release website, they will encourage multi-stakeholder collaboration in pioneering and realizing the Indonesian version of the Multiverse, which is expected to provide benefits for the Asia Pacific society in the digital era.
