Application of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a computer program designed to follow human actions and thought patterns. Not only big companies, now AI is starting to touch a number of technologies, such as mobile phones that have become a lifestyle for urban people. Its presence in a number of everyday technology devices is able to provide convenience for its users.
Indeed, AI began to develop since 1940 when the book Principia Mathematica by Bertrand Russell and Alfred North Whitehead was published. This book discusses the early stages of artificial intelligence. Then, in the 1990s, AI began to develop along with the development of the application of psychology in computer science.
AI has a broad concept and is divided into two types, namely ANI (Artificial Narrow Intelligence) and AGI (Artificial General Intelligence)
AI has a broad concept and is divided into two types, namely ANI (Artificial Narrow Intelligence) and AGI (Artificial General Intelligence). ANI or limited artificial intelligence is a system that can work if it is programmed to do a job. While AGI is an artificial intelligence that can do what humans do or even more.
The application of AI is usually on a computer system or machine so that the system can recognize data. The data is obtained through various methods, for example by manual labeling, observing behavior, downloading from websites or partnerships.
There are three well-known types of AI, namely Manipulation AI, Neural AI, and Neural Networks. Manipulation AI is the type most often used in research. This type of AI uses abstract symbols.
Neural AI is a type of artificial intelligence that has been popular since the 80s. This AI represents knowledge through artificial neutrons which are then linked through the learning process. Meanwhile, Neural Networks are a type of AI organized in layers related to simulation. Usually, this type of AI is used in an iterative process of experimentation so that AI can understand the construction of the treatment that humans give to this advanced technology.
The application of AI technology in everyday life
The creation of AI can generate benefits for humans. Because by using AI, human work will be helped so that humans can focus more on doing other things. AI can also be applied to various fields of science, from the fields of health, language, to the arts. Here are some examples of the application of AI technology in everyday life:
1. Virtual Reality (VR)
Virtual Reality (VR) or also known as virtual reality is a technology that can make individuals interact for real, with imaginary objects resulting from computer simulations. Generally, this technology is used as an observation tool in almost all fields. In the games industry, VR is also often used.
VR technology coupled with AI can later be personalized according to the needs of its users. For example, the imaginary application of AI in VR technology can be seen in the film Iron Man. In the film, all film characters can live and interact with the data. In other words, in addition to providing a more vivid visualization, the adoption of AI in VR can also be personalized according to the needs of its users.
2. Smart car
One of the applications of AI technology that facilitates human activities can be seen from smart cars. Lately, the Indonesian automotive market is booming, namely smart cars produced by Tesla. This car has been equipped with an AI or artificial intelligence technology chip, which can make this car run on multiple sensors. Some of these sensors can run a radar system for autopilot features.
For those of you who have watched the movie Knight Rider, you are certainly familiar with Knight Industries Two Thousand (KITT), a smart car that can talk and carry out orders from its owner, Michael Knight. More or less, that's the implementation of artificial intelligence in the automotive world. AI functions in smart cars generally consist of two. First, as an infotainment human-machine interface, aka supporting digital services, such as speech recognition, gesture recognition, eye tracking, and driver monitoring. Second, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) which allow vehicles to drive automatically or commonly referred to as autopilot. Through this capability, AI works with the use of cameras, sensors, and radar.
3. Maximizing Smartphone Camera
One of the applications of AI technology in mobile phones is characterized by an area out of focus camera. Initially, area out of focus could only be done using a professional camera. However, the presence of AI technology on mobile phones can improve the ability of the phone lens to take pictures, record, detect photo objects, and maximize a number of settings so that the capture looks quality. This makes people who like photography do not have to bother to bring a camera when traveling.
4. Online Ride Application
AI technology in the ride application is used to optimize the process of selecting drivers. For example, when ordering a ride online, the application will immediately search for the driver whose location is closest to the customer.
When ordering food with the keyword food, for example, the application will immediately search for a list of food stalls based on certain criteria, such as those that are close by, the most reviews, cheap delivery rates, etc.
Then, AI technology is also used in customer and driver safety matters. AI technology is now used to detect unplanned stops. When the system detects this, the system will send a notification to the passenger and ask if the passenger or driver needs assistance.
5. Chat bot
Now, there are many sites or applications that use the help of chat bots. The ability of chat bots emerged because of AI. Chat bot is one of the applications of AI technology that will facilitate human activities.
In business, especially in the digital era, chat bots have many roles. Apart from being a service and information center for 24 hours every day, this technology indirectly affects sales. That's because all customer information that interacts with the chat bot is recorded. Based on the recording, the company will get the email, phone number, age, gender and habits of the person. The data set will be processed to be used as material for marketing strategies. The approach can be through newsletters, product recommendations, or discounts.
6. Used in Banking Industry
Artificial intelligence and machine learning play an important role in the banking industry by providing security and convenience features for its customers. In the banking world, the application of technology is used for: fraud prevention. Machine Learning can prevent fraud by monitoring your spending habits on a regular basis, taking into account various factors such as the interval between transactions, their location, value, and more. Such technology can help determine whether the transaction is legitimate or fraudulent.
Artificial intelligence can help protect your payments by using facial and speech recognition, which allows only official payments to be made. Alert for various payments such as bills, loans, transfers can also be managed by AI. Moreover, by using AI in everyday life, banks have gone completely digital. Opening a bank account has never been easier, thanks to a paperless process. They are now providing a personalized mobile banking experience to their customers with special offers on their services.
7. Application of AI in e-Commerce
E-commerce has undergone a major overhaul over the last few years with the introduction of AI and Machine Learning. The application of AI in e-commerce improves the quality of the platform as well as the customer experience. For example, in a product search, when a visitor types “Red Bag”, they will get a list of red bags instantly. This is made possible by the underlying AI algorithm, which regularly categorizes product searches for efficient indexing. In addition, by paying attention to customer usage patterns, this technology can also recommend products and help search.
Now, image recognition is also used in e-commerce sites or applications. When you want to search for a product but don't know the name, while you have the image, then you can upload the image to an application or e-commerce site. Then, the image recognition engine on your e-commerce site or app will return products that are similar to the image you uploaded.
8. Google Predictive Search Algorithm
Google has used AI technology to provide recommendations for reading content and entertainment sites that suit your tastes.
When you do a search on Google, you definitely see some search terms filling the search field automatically. Behind this is Google's AutoComplete feature that shows predictions as you type a search term character by character. Google uses a combination of the technologies behind leading search engines, including Neural Networks, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence. Those are some examples of the application of AI technology in various fields of daily life. In addition to these examples, AI technology has also been used for: facial ID recognition on mobile phones, electronic mail (email), entertainment applications and social media (such as Facebook and Netflix), Google navigation (Google Maps), video games, and so on.
